Environmental Protection

The most important environmental protection measures of a wool combing plant relate to the water supply, as large quantities of raw wool are scoured with water. At BWK, through a big input of engineering work and capital we have made effective environmental protection a reality and have at the same time defined the state of the art for our industry.

The achievements of our environmental protection plant and equipment - an evaporation and incineration plant in conjunction with a biological effluent treatment plant - in comparison with the data before these were set up are as follows:

  • reduction of the content of pollutants in the effluent water by more than 99 per cent
  • the removal and residue-free destruction of the residual pesticides from treatment of the sheep
  • fresh water savings of 65 per cent through recycling
  • reduction of residual and waste materials by approx. 50 per cent
  • approx. 80 per cent reduction of waste materials requiring disposal

As a logical further step, BWK is the first wool combing plant in the world to have set up an environmental management system in accordance with the EC Eco-Audit Regulation No. 1836/93 and to have had this certified and registered.
